What Manchester United teammates think about Ruben Amorim snubbing Kobbie Mainoo as Newcastle interest emerges

Kobbie Mainoo is currently being snubbed by Ruben Amorim at Manchester United and some of his teammates have a clear opinion on the situation.

Kobbie Mainoo broke into Manchester United’s first team under Erik ten Hag, making his Premier League debut in November 2023.

He immediately caught the eye, delivering an impressive performance against Everton and soon becoming a regular midfield partner for Casemiro.

Mainoo capped his breakthrough campaign by scoring the decisive goal in the FA Cup final, before featuring for England at Euro 2024, where he started in the final loss to Spain.

Since Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford, however, the 20-year-old has found regular playing time harder to come by. Frustrated by his limited chances, he even pushed for a loan move in the summer, though the club turned down his request.

What United teammates think about Amorim snubbing Mainoo

Mainoo is still without a start in the Premier League this season after four games despite impressing off the bench in the last two outings.

With the United hierarchy still backing Amorim, it is possible that he pushes for a mid-season loan in the January transfer window if things don’t change before then.

According to a report from TalkSPORT, some of Mainoo’s teammates are ‘perplexed’ by Amorim’s lack of faith in the player.

It was also added that Newcastle are keeping tabs on the 20-year-old, with Eddie Howe keen on bringing the midfielder in during the January window if possible.

United will not want to let the Academy star go but there needs to be changes in the coming weeks and months in order to convince him that he should be staying.

Fans are not alone in Mainoo surprise

One of the reasons why some believe Mainoo isn’t being trusted in the deeper role is a perceived lack of athleticism, even though he has shown in his cameos this season that it is not a major problem.

United currently switch between an ageing Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte in the middle. The latter might run around a lot but it isn’t always beneficial.

Mainoo is stronger and better in duels than the Uruguayan, who often fouls or loses out when sprinting into such situations.

But it seems like fans are not the only ones surprised at Mainoo’s lack of minutes, and some players will be hoping he is trusted to play in the engine room consistently soon.
