Bills head coach Sean McDermott provided an update on Matt Milano's latest injury

The Buffalo Bills cruised to victory in Week 2 over the New York Jets, as they picked up a 30-10 win to push their record on the season to 2-0. However, they didn’t escape this game unscathed, as several key players picked up injuries during this clash. One of those guys was linebacker Matt Milano, and on Tuesday, head coach Sean McDermott issued a murky update on his status.

Over the past two seasons, Milano has been plagued by injuries, and while he entered the 2025 campaign fully healthy, he suffered a pectoral injury on Sunday against the Jets. With a short week on hand for Buffalo, Milano’s status is worth keeping tabs on, especially after McDermott’s latest injury update on him.

A fifth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Milano has spent his entire career with the Bills, and he has turned himself into a key piece of their defense. After becoming a full-time starter in 2018, the only thing that has slowed Milano down is injuries. In fact, ever since earning Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors in 2022, staying on the field has been the biggest challenge Milano has faced.

Over the past two seasons, Milano played in only nine games thanks to a slew of injuries. When he’s on the field, he is still one of the most impactful players in the league at his position, but his inability to consistently stay on the field has hampered Buffalo, and it seems like he could be dealing with another injury that will keep him off the field for a period of time.

The Bills’ defense was already shorthanded for their contest with the Jets, as defensive tackle Ed Oliver and cornerback Taron Johnson both missed the game with injuries of their own. Now, the team has to worry about Milano, too, and when asked about his status on Tuesday, McDermott didn’t give away much information regarding his status.

“Don’t have much,” McDermott said when speaking to reporters. “Hopefully we can get him back. We’ll see what it looks like as we head into tomorrow here.”

Playing on Thursday puts the Bills in a bind when it comes to their injury situation, as their players don’t have as much time to recover and get themselves ready to go for the game. Considering all the other injuries Milano has dealt with throughout his career, that could lead Buffalo to play it safe with him in Week 3.

The Bills will face the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night, and to put it bluntly, the Dolphins have been a mess to begin the new season. However, after losing their first two games of the season, they will be very motivated heading into this game, which could make things more difficult for Buffalo. Regardless, Milano’s status will be worth keeping an eye on over the next few days, as the team is hoping he will be able to make a quick recovery from his latest injury.
