Joan Laporta reignites dream Barcelona move for €60 million Manchester City mainstay

Joan Laporta retains a dream of bringing Erling Haaland to Barcelona as a long-term replacement for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.

According to Fichajes, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reportedly revived his dream of bringing Erling Haaland to the Catalan club. The supremo of the Spanish giants is eager to make a statement signing by bringing the Norwegian striker as a long-term replacement for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, but any move will be extremely complicated on all sides.

Erling Haaland has developed into probably the best striker in the world currently, and Manchester City have done extremely well to secure his future. Back in January, the Premier League giants announced a nine-and-a-half-year contract extension for the Norwegian hitman, with the attacker likely to be on massive wages that trump every other player in the English league.

Despite securing that long-term deal, Manchester City are still batting away potential suitors for the striker. Pep Guardiola is desperate to keep hold of Haaland amid interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona, with the Spanish duo prepared to go on the offensive next summer to sign the Norwegian striker.

Real Madrid even considered a swap deal involving Vinicius Junior, who has had contractual issues at the Santiago Bernabeu and could look to leave. Real Madrid could spend significantly on the striker even if they have to sell stars like Rodrygo Goes in the near future.

Barcelona also retain a big interest in Erling Haaland, who cost Manchester City €60 million three years ago from Borussia Dortmund. Joan Laporta wants to sign him if he was re-elected as Barcelona’s president for another tenure, and should that happen, he is ready to commit to bring the Norwegian to the Camp Nou.

Joan Laporta revives Erling Haaland dream

Haaland is described as Laporta’s dream target to replace veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, as the report states they could commit funds to bring the striker. However, the Norwegian striker’s long-term deal with Manchester City as well as his reputation as the best hitman in the business will exponentially increase the cost than what the Catalan club have in mind.

Moreover, Manchester City will point towards the fact that their idea of a nine-plus-year deal is designed to keep the striker at the club for many more years rather than looking to sell him. Hence, Barcelona could face multiple issues in their quest to sign Haaland, as the €60 million Manchester City star may be out of their reach even in the summer of 2026.
