The Minnesota Vikings entered the season with high expectations for young quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who dealt with an injury all of last season.
McCarthy has plenty to figure out in the NFL, and it could take a few years before he does. However, with some of the talent the Vikings have on their roster, they need to do that sooner rather than later.
One can only wonder how long the team will wait.
Some don't believe that McCarthy is the guy for the job, including a former Philadelphia Eagles team president.
“Last week i said McCarthy is a long way from being a quality nfl QB,” Joe [Banner wrote](https://x.com/JoeBanner13/status/1967550319891767335). “X attacked and ridiculed me after he had a come from behind win against a bad D. I still think the Vikings should call Atlanta about Kirk Cousins. McCarthy may be the answer someday, but its not now.”

Saying that McCarthy isn't the man for the job yet would be very unfair, considering how young he is and the fact that he was injured all of last season.
Even if McCarthy had years of success in the NFL before this season, it's only fair to question whether he'd be the same type of player after that knee injury anyway.
Factoring that in with him technically being a rookie, there's plenty that has to play out before anybody should be calling him a bust or suggesting otherwise.
It'll be interesting to see how the Vikings respond to some of the adversity they've faced early in the year. Minnesota didn't exactly play well in its first game of the season against the Chicago Bears, and it got embarrassed against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
McCarthy, however, is now dealing with an injury, so it's possible that he won't be the man to fix that in the immediate term.
