Former UGA football star, Superbowl champion to read to Sccpss students

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - On September 22, 2025, SCCPSS students will join students all over the state to hear Malcolm Mitchell, former UGA football star and Superbowl champion, read his favorite book.

This collaboration comes as Savannah-Chatham County Public School System is joins forces with Georgia Reads to celebrate literacy and promote reading, according to a press release from the school system.

Malcolm will read and talk about the importance of reading in his life on a livestream (available to everyone at [https://www.gpb.org/georgiareadsday](https://www.gpb.org/georgiareadsday)) which will include “a reading rally, story time, and a magician.”

**The Georgia Reads Day livestream will begin on September 22, 2025 at 9:30 a.m.**

"We encourage the community to join us in support of Georgia Reads Day and ‘stop, drop and read’ at some point during the day of September 22," the press release states.

“Stop what you’re doing, drop what you’re carrying or holding and replace it with a book!”

SCCPSS is also asking for parents to let them know when they do read, whether to children or themselves.

“Post a photo or video of your reading experience,” SCCPSS says. “You can answer one of these questions to help you get started.”

* What is your favorite book and why?

* What is your favorite character and why?

* What is your favorite part of the current book you are reading?

“Use any one of the questions (or all!) and be sure to tag us in your post,” SCCPSS asks.

“Use the hashtags: #stopdropandread #georgiareads #savannahreads #georgiareadsday #KeepReadingGA #supportliteracy”
