An Eagles cornerback entered Arrowhead Stadium with a golden opportunity. The Eagles' secondary was looking for answers. And all eyes were on the young cornerback. He had a chance to seize a starting role. But then, reality hit.
And it hit hard. Jakorian Bennett’s brief appearance was... well, you may call it a nightmare. He was on the field for only five defensive snaps. And Patrick Mahomes immediately targeted him. The results were brutal for Philadelphia.
Mahomes first completed two passes for 21 yards while Bennett was on the field. To make things worse, Showtime then scrambled twice for 19 yards and a touchdown. And on that scoring run, Bennett seemed to have escorted Mahomes into the zone. It was a forgettable sequence. And the performance starkly contrasted with the preseason hype.

Many fans had called for Bennett to start over veteran Adoree’ Jackson. His potential seemed immense. However, Week 2 showed a different story. The Chiefs exposed his vulnerabilities. This game was a major test, and Bennett unfortunately failed. His technique and awareness were clearly lacking against the league’s best.
The Eagles' defense otherwise played a strong game. They held Mahomes to just 187 passing yards. Rookie Andrew Mukuba even grabbed a critical interception. Bennett’s struggles stood out precisely because the unit was so solid. Vic Fangio’s system demands consistency and discipline from its corners. Bennett showed neither in his limited action.
The coaching staff now faces a dilemma. They must decide if Bennett can be trusted again soon. His development hit a significant roadblock. This game film will be tough to review. For a player fighting for more snaps, this was a devastating step backward.
Bennett's Uphill Battle
Bennett's poor containment on Mahomes’ scrambles was concerning. The Eagles need reliability opposite Quinyon Mitchell. Bennett proved he is not yet that guy.
It’s a tough lesson for the young player. The NFL offers few second chances. He must now regain the coaches' trust in practice. This will be a true test of his character and resilience.
The Eagles' secondary depth is now a question mark. This puts more pressure on Jackson to stay healthy. It also might force Howie Roseman to explore other options. Bennett’s stumble isn’t just a personal setback. It has larger implications for the entire defensive backfield strategy moving forward.

He can still flip the script; the league loves nothing more than a redemption episode. But until then, the clip of Mahomes waving bye-bye will loop in meeting rooms like a broken jukebox. Ball’s in your glove, man—write the next verse, or become the cautionary chorus.
