Everton are unlikely to consider any immediate sale of star defender Jarrad Branthwaite despite Manchester United’s persistent interest.
According to Todo Mercado Web, Manchester United could be dealt a blow in their persistent pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite. Everton have no immediate plans to offload their star defender and views him as a long-term performer at the club.
Manchester United tried and failed with multiple bids for Jarrad Branthwaite during the summer of 2024, and have continued to hold a strong interest in the defender. At the time, Everton were somewhat receptive to the idea of selling their star defender should the Red Devils come in with a big offer that suited their pockets.
However, Manchester United were unwilling to match Everton’s demands then, but continued to hold a strong interest in the 23-year-old England international. Reports claimed that Branthwaite held talks with the Red Devils, but things have changed exponentially in the background for the centre-back.
He was expected to sign a new five-year deal, something he has done since, which ties him down until 2030. Everton view Branthwaite as a centre-piece to their project at the new stadium, as their new deal for the centre-back is indicative of the same.
Branthwaite was expected to more than double his wages with the new contract, and that may be another factor to help Everton keep hold of him. Hence, the Toffees have no plans to sell the 23-year-old England international at the moment or in the near future, having secured his long-term stay for the time being.
Manchester United suffer blow in Jarrad Branthwaite pursuit
Manchester United seemingly considers Branthwaite as a long-term option for their defence, especially as the time of Harry Maguire could end soon. He is the ideal replacement for the experienced defender, but the idea of signing him in the near future is all but over.
This is a big blow for Manchester United, especially if they fail to make it to the Champions League in the near future. Players like Branthwaite could prefer a team in the premier European competition whenever he is ready to leave Everton, meaning there will be some of the Red Devils’ rivals angling for a move for the 23-year-old England international in the future.
