Luke Goedeke is expected to miss multiple weeks with a foot injury he suffered in the Buccaneers' Week 2 win
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers improved to 2-0 with a hard-fought 20-19 victory over the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football, but they didn’t escape the game unscathed. Several players departed from this matchup early with injuries, with one of them being starting right tackle Luke Goedeke.
In the buildup to this game, Goedeke was battling a foot injury that threw his status up in the air. While he did end up playing, he didn’t last long before reaggravating his injury, forcing him out of the contest before it ended. On Tuesday, the team got a tough update on Goedeke’s status, as it seems likely he will miss the next few games with this injury.

A second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Goedeke has established himself as a key piece of Tampa Bay’s offensive line during his first few seasons in the league. After moving from guard to tackle, Goedeke took a big step forward for the Buccaneers, and it quickly became clear that he was going to be a part of their long-term future.
Sure enough, Goedeke earned a four-year, $90 million contract extension with Tampa right before the start of the season, which will keep him in town through the 2029 season. With Tristan Wirfs locked in as the Bucs’ starting left tackle through 2029 as well, the team has two pillars worth building around on their o-line for the foreseeable future.
The problem is that neither is currently healthy, as Wirfs is still working his way back from offseason knee surgery. While he is closing in on a return, it sounds like Goedeke is now set to miss time. The Buccaneers reportedly managed to avoid the worst-case scenario when it comes to Goedeke’s injury, but it still sounds like he is going to miss a couple of weeks as he works on getting himself healthy.

Buccaneers Aiming to Stay Afloat Amid Luke Goedeke’s Absence

With Goedeke out, the Buccaneers turned to the veteran Charlie Heck, and while he held his own against a tough Texans’ pass rush, it was hard to ignore how much pressure Baker Mayfield had to deal with under center. Not every team features as strong a defense as Houston does, but the team will be hoping for a bit more in Goedeke’s absence.
Tampa Bay will be happy to have escaped a tough two-game stretch to begin their season with a pair of wins, and they will look to continue to win moving forward, even as the injuries begin to pile up. The Buccaneers will be back in action against the winless New York Jets in Week 2, with kickoff for this contest scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
