Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay made it clear that the team planned to address the loss of veteran starter Ahkello Witherspoon with an outside addition, and they settled on former Seattle Seahawks prospect Tre Brown.
Now in his fifth NFL season, Brown signed with the San Francisco 49ers in free agency this past offseason.
After getting cut in late August, Brown finds a new home with a Rams team in need of help.

Brown was the No. 137 overall pick of the 2021 draft, seven slots after the Rams selected Robert Rochell, who is now a member of the Dallas Cowboys. The 5-foot-10 Brown figures to slide into the CB rotation behind the Rams’ incumbents.
“LA Rams Roster Moves,” the team posted on X on September 16. “Free Agent Signing CB Tre Brown.”

Pro Football Focus’s Thomas Valentine ranked Brown as the No. 1 press corner in 2023.
“Brown was a sporadic starter for the Seahawks, but his 88.5 press coverage grade was the best in the NFL. Despite his size, Brown has made a name off his physicality at the line of scrimmage, looking to turn every battle into a dogfight,” Valentine wrote in June 2024.
“Across 145 press snaps, Brown was targeted just 22 times and allowed a 59.1% completion percentage. He might not be a household name, but Brown snagged two interceptions, forced five incompletions in press coverage and routinely made life harder for opposing quarterbacks and receivers.”
Brown logged seven starts that season, but saw his playing time and production fall with the Seahawks in 2024.
Rams HC Sean McVay Noted Need for CB

The Rams lost Witherspoon to a broken clavicle, which is expected to cost him anywhere from six to 12 weeks to recover from.
McVay espoused faith in the Rams’ current CBs, but admitted they would bring in outside help.
“We’ve got a bunch of guys that we’re confident in, but we will have a plan that we’re working through that you’ll see,” McVay told reporters on September 15. “We’ll bring somebody in, and that’ll be good.”
Part of that plan will be veteran and Super Bowl champion Darious Williams playing behind Decobie Durant and Emmanuel Forbes.
One of the surprises this season on the Rams defense has been the lack of playing time for Darious Williams.
With Witherspoon out, the defense is going to need a veteran presence at CB. Does a really nice job getting the PBU here. Hope to see more of him in the rotation. pic.twitter.com/ceJoljxZPr

“He came in, played 26 snaps, made some good progress. I thought it was a really good reflection of his maturity to be ready to go. You had Forbes play almost 50 snaps. Decobie Durant ended up playing 41, I believe,” McVay said. “I think it’s good to be able to use those guys. I was really pleased with Forbes and with Decobie. And then, I was really pleased with D-Will coming in. And we’re still in the midst of kind of getting started on Philly, putting that game plan together, but I think using all three of those guys will be to our benefit.”
Rams Still Have Options in Free Agency

If the Rams feel they need more at corner than Durant, Forbes, Williams, or even Brown, with several intriguing options available in free agency, including Super Bowl champion and former Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore.
Emmanuel Moseley and Kendall Fuller are other veteran options who could be of interest.
Then there is the high-reward flier of Asante Samuel Jr., who turns 26 in October. He spent 2024 with the Los Angeles Chargers, but remains a free agent after an injury-marred campaign.
McVay and the Rams will likely let their current group, which now includes Brown, try their hand against the defending Super Bowl Champion Eagles on the road before deciding on any further moves at the position.
