Falcons looking for cornerback help amid injury to A.J. Terrell

Amid the Falcons dominant defensive performance on Sunday Night Football, star cornerback A.J. Terrell exited the game late in the second quarter with a hamstring injury. He did not return, and Raheem Morris said the Falcons would not know more until later in the week.

Raheem Morris yesterday afternoon: “Nothing new right now. Obviously, he suffered the injury. He didn't come back in the game (Sunday) with the hamstring. I'll have better information when we start practice and we get to those days."

First injury report will come out tomorrow. https://t.co/5o2RusZDQm

Because hamstring injuries have a tendency to linger, they almost always result in missed time, and the Falcons seem to be preparing for that reality.

On Tuesday, Atlanta signed Keith Taylor to the practice squad. They also worked out several more cornerbacks.

Hopefully, the injury to A.J. Terrell is not something that is going to result in a stint on the Injured Reserve. He’s one of the best cornerbacks in the league, and it’s already a position where the Falcons are thin.

That said, Atlanta’s new-found pass rush has made life much easier on the secondary. As long as they can keep getting pressure, there’s hope the guys on the backend can still do their job, even without A.J. Terrell. In his absence, Dee Alford filled in on the outside and did a really good job in the second half, but his spotty history is something the Falcons should be concerned about if Terrell is out for an extended period of time.
