The Minnesota Vikings are in the first season of the J.J. McCarthy era, after he missed all of his rookie season to a meniscus injury that he suffered in the preseason. Unfortunately for McCarthy his professional debut isn’t going exactly as he planned.
McCarthy has shown flashes of the potential that got him selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, but his consistency has left a lot to be desired. To make matters worse, he is going to miss some key time in his development after suffering a high ankle sprain in the Vikings’ loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night.
With McCarthy out for potentially the next several games, the Vikings have signed another quarterback to fill in the void left by his absence, according to one prominent league insider.
“The #Vikings are signing QB Desmond Ridder to the 53-man roster, with JJ McCarthy suffering an ankle injury, per me and (Tom Pelissero),” [reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Tuesday.](https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1968041895768277304)
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“As an honest vikings fan, he must be hungry for revenge and it would be MALPRACTICE if we dont start him this week,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“It’s time to ride, Ridder Riders! Cheeks McCarthy better watch out, there’s a proven winner coming to (town),” someone else added.
“Oh they signing anyone atp,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Ridder takes the field for Minnesota.
