The Minnesota Vikings let veteran quarterback Sam Darnold walk this offseason after a resurgent season. Now, Minnesota is rolling with J.J. McCarthy, who lost his rookie season to a meniscus injury he suffered last preseason.
Unfortunately, in the Vikings’ last game, a loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football, McCarthy suffered a high ankle sprain that will cause him to miss some time. To make matters worse, McCarthy wasn’t the only key member of Minnesota’s offense to go down with injury, according to one prominent league insider.
“The Vikings are placing starting RB Aaron Jones on Injured Reserve, knocking him out four games, per me and (Tom Pelissero). He has a hamstring injury. Jordan Mason now becomes RB1. Cam Akers is signing to the practice squad,” [reported NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Twitter.](https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1968058365600469469)
Fans reacted to the brutal news on social media.
“That 4 games about to become 11-12 real quick lmao we tried to tell you Vikings fans but yall are just way too obsessed with the Packers sloppy seconds,” one Packers fan wrote on Twitter.
“Does Akers have a cot at the facility? They should always just leave a roster spot open for him every season,” another fan added.
“Jordan Mason isn’t giving up the RB1 role once Jones is back,” someone else predicted.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Vikings offense looks in the coming weeks.
