**Man United legend Rio Ferdinand still believes that his former club can finish in the top six this campaign, but he admits that final position seems unlikely based on their current form.**
The 3-0 defeat in the Manchester derby has [**raised further questions**](https://manunews.com/blog/man-united-news-ruben-amorim-foster/) about the direction of the club under Ruben Amorim, and Ferdinand said he would now be content finishing just outside the Champions League places:
“If I sit here now and you ask me, ‘where will Man United finish?’, I would say probably sixth or seventh. I would be happy with it this season. That’s looking like a long shot at this moment in time.”
When you consider that the Red Devils are currently sitting 14th in the table, you would think most supporters would gladly take 6th place right now.
Amorim needs points quickly
---------------------------
After the devastating result at the Etihad, the morale among fans is extremely low, and a positive result is desperately needed.
Next up for United is Chelsea at home. The Blues have not won at Old Trafford for 9 years, but it’s probably unwise to take any precedent from past meetings based on what we have seen from Amorim’s team this season.
While they did perform relatively well against Arsenal on the opening day, they still lost, and they won’t be favourites to win on Sunday either. Nonetheless, if the Red Devils can secure three points, it would be a huge boost for everyone at the club.
Latest Man United injury news
-----------------------------
Matheus Cunha (hamstring) is hoping to be back for the Chelsea fixture. Speaking in his pre-match press conference prior to the loss to City, Amorim remarked that the Brazilian would have played in the derby if the forward had his way, but the medical staff felt the match had come too soon.
Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot both have muscular injuries and neither player has a set return date. Lisandro Martinez (ACL), meanwhile, is still in rehabilitation.
