PL rivals in no mood to entertain Manchester United interest in English ace

Manchester United are struggling to land Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite

There is a desperate need for Manchester United to bring in a new face at the heart of defence. And while the club has been subject to links with a lot of centre backs, none of those links have come through, but among them is their long-standing interest in Everton CB Jarrad Branthwaite.

We saw the 23-year-old England international pen down a new long-term deal with the Merseysiders. And they have no intention of entertaining any offers for their star defender despite rumours linking him to some of the most elite in the English top tier.

Manchester United have been looking at Jarrad Branthwaite for a long time.

There have been multiple times where the Premier League heavyweights have pushed towards signing Branthwaite. In fact, we have seen United test Everton’s resolve with multiple bids. Talks were held. Interest was real. But in the end nothing happened at M16, given how Everton were very firm about their valuation for Branthwaite.

And according to Todomercadoweb, it looks like their stance over his valuation hasn’t changed. Given his performances of late, if anything, it’s only been strengthened at Hill Dickson Stadium.

We saw the Merseyside Blues tie down Branthwaite’s future until 2030. This new contract is a big statement. They went on to double down on his wages and also take away any immediate exit clause. So right now it seems that Everton see Branthwaite as one of their untouchables.

United need a defender desperately, but clock is ticking for Branthwaite

Should Manchester United have a go at Jarrad Branthwaite yet again?

For Manchester United, bringing him to Old Trafford would have been a long-term solution to their defensive woes. Given that Harry Maguire is also entering the twilight of his career. And then another CB, Lisandro Martinez, has been having some consistent injury setbacks since his move to Old Trafford. United do need to bring in a new centre back. By the ability and need at hand, Branthwaite did tick every box. He is not only young but also left-footed and has proved his credentials in the English top tier.

But if Everton’s take on his situation remains unchanged, then United’s push for his signature is leading nowhere.

WAFU Opinion

See, the thing with Everton is that they are building for the long term themselves. And Branthwaite isn’t just part of the plan; he is the plan. They want the 23-year-old leading the backline at the new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium.

By the looks of it, if United do want to sign him, they need to push for a fee at least above £75m to get Everton to the table.
