Manchester United were ready to sell Manuel Ugarte this summer
Manchester United had been looking to sign a midfielder in the recently concluded summer transfer window. But while Ruben Amorim couldn’t sign a new player in the second phase, Manchester Reds were ready to have a high-profile exit from the Portuguese head coach’s roster.
The chiefs at Carrington were ready to sanction Manuel Ugarte’s exit this summer. He moved to M16 only about 12 months back when the Premier League heavyweights secured a £50.5 million deal with Paris Saint-Germain somewhere around late August.
In fact, when we look back, Man United spent the better part of the summer haggling to sign him on a loan-to-buy deal. But the French giants wanted a fair lump sum of cash upfront, given that they had already brought in Joao Neves in a marquee transfer to Parc des Princes.
But it is fair to look back on his stay in the English top tier as more underwhelming. Ugarte has not even come close to the impact that United supporters expected out of him. And you could soon see the reasons behind why Luis Enrique didn’t throw him out to the wolves in the second phase unless there was sufficient cover around him. But that is not what he has at United, and the nature of the Premier League exposes his problems more.
Romano speaks on United trying to sell Ugarte

United were considering to sell Ugarte in the recently concluded summer window.
Now transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has given us an insight into what went on around the corridors at M16 over the summer. Speaking on his channel last night, he insisted on how multiple offers arrived for his signatures in the recently concluded summer window. And this was after INEOS opened the door for a premature exit for the Uruguayan.
He also went on to reveal that the only reason behind any deal not materialising was because all the potential suitors wanted him on a loan deal. And no one was ready to grab his services for cash upfront. This pushed the decision-makers at M16 to direct their attention from selling Ugarte.

Do you think Amorim is to blame for underwhelming Ugarte performances?
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said:
“I can reveal to you that, for Manuel Ugarte, there was a possibility of an exit this summer.
“For example, Italian clubs were interested in Ugarte, but Manchester United decided to close the doors to an eventual loan move, so this is why nothing happened.
“For Manuel Ugarte, we’ll have to see if some club will arrive with a permanent deal proposal in 2026, because this might change the situation.”
WAFU Opinion
Ugarte’s performances have been shaky since he arrived. And if the club goes on to list him on the market when the next summer comes around, the possible fee that United would receive would be substantially less than what they paid to bring him to Old Trafford (unless his performances were to improve by a mile).
