“I don't care where I play": Tavernier relishing midfield challenge

MARCUS Tavernier admitted he doesn’t care what position he plays for the [Cherries](http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/cherries/clubnews/) and has been enjoying operating in different roles so far this season.

The Englishman was used in a deeper midfield role in the final game of last season against Leicester City, partly out of necessity with injuries and suspensions, and has reprised that role at times this season.

He and Alex Scott have formed an effective partnership in midfield, able to rotate between a couple of different positions, with Tyler Adams a constant in the defensive midfield role.

Against Liverpool, Tavernier and Scott played slightly in front of Adams, to match up with the Reds’ midfield, while in the games since, Tavernier has reverted back to a more forward position in the ten, with Scott in the eight.

The 26-year-old said he is relishing being a part of the team so far this season and said he is happy to play wherever he is asked to by Andoni Iraola.

“I just love football, I don't care where I play,” Tavernier told the Daily Echo.

“I grew up playing many different positions so I'm used to these sort of things and it's something that the manager’s asked of me so far this season which I'm more than willing and happy to do.

“But you can see that me, Ty and Scotty have been at the club for a long time. We get on really well and I'm sure that's shown on the pitch as well.”

Competition for places in the Bournemouth midfield and in the number ten role is hotting up again with the return of Lewis Cook, Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert from injury, with all three playing major roles in the side’s success last season.

But Tavernier admitted that can only help the team.

“That's always the best thing to have in a club is competition,” he said.

“You never want to be settled in with one team playing every week no matter what.

“So it's good to have the likes of the quality we have on the bench to come on to change games and to challenge each other every week on the training pitch.”
