Setback for Guille Fernandez as Barcelona teen ruled out with ankle injury

Barcelona teenager Guille Fernandez has been hit with a setback as he’s been ruled out for “four to five weeks” with an injury.

Guille picked up the problem in Barcelona Atletic’s 2-1 defeat to Andratx at the weekend. He was replaced at the break after sustaining the injury in the first half.

Fernandez will now be out of action for around a month which is a big setback to the player and to Juliano Belletti’s Barca Atletic.

Here’s Barcelona’s statement:

“The tests carried out have shown that Barça Atlètic player Guillermo Fernández has an injury to theiofibular ligament of the left ankle. The expected recovery time is between four and five weeks.”

The 17-year-old is one of a host of promising youngsters at the club and was part of Barca’s pre-season tour of Asia.

He’s been in and around the first team, along with cousin Toni, for a little while and the hope is that he can potentially make the breakthrough at some point.

Guille has also attracted interest from other clubs recently. He was linked with Borussia Dortmund and Porto in the summer but opted to stay at Barcelona.
