'A chance' - Jeff Stelling gives latest Ruben Amorim sack verdict as Man Utd struggles continue

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is under increasing pressure after losing to Manchester City

Stelling, now a talkSPORT presenter, was discussing Amorim’s future with Arsenal legend Ray Parlour as the pair reflected on yet another defeat for the Red Devils.

United failed to qualify for any form of European football for this season and are already out of the Carabao Cup after losing to League Two Grimsby Town on penalties.

On Sunday, they were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City with a tepid derby performance that leaves them with just four points from their opening four games.

They are already playing catch-up as Amorim is expected to get the club back into some sort of European competition next season but qualifying for the Champions League already looks a tall order.

Jeff Stelling and Ray Parlour discuss Ruben Amorim future

Asked if he thinks Amorim would walk way from the job at Old Trafford, Stelling believes it is a possibility.

“I think he has looked pretty disillusioned and some of the things he has said - says to me he is pretty disillusioned.”

Ray Parlour was having the discussion with Stelling and said: “They need a result very, very quickly.”

Stelling continued: “They are playing Chelsea this weekend but I am not sure the players are buying into [the system].”

Parlour retorted: “You can’t be stubborn as a manager, you have got to look at the players and think what is going to be the best for the team and the individuals we have.

“Maybe try and change it and see how you go. At least the fans will see you trying something different.”

What Ruben Amorim has said about his Manchester United tactics

After losing to City, Amorim insisted he would not change his way and that if the club wanted a different playing style then they would need to sack him.

“It is not a record we should have at Manchester United,” Amorim said in his post-match press conference. “I accept that but I am not going to change.

“When I want to change my philosophy I will change but, if not, you have to change the man.

“We will talk about that every game we lose. I have played my way and I am going to play my way until I want to change.”

He added: “When I want to change my philosophy I will change but, if not, you have to change the man.

“We will talk about that every game we lose. I have played my way and I am going to play my way until I want to change.”
