Patrick Mahomes has turned 30. Here’s a look at his accomplishments through his 20s

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes played the final game of his career in his 20s on Sunday.

Mahomes, who turns 30 on Wednesday, is already one of the most decorated quarterbacks in National Football League history, and his name is littered throughout the Chiefs and NFL record books. Two games into his eighth season as a starter here’s a look at where Mahomes stacks up in various award and statistical categories.

Before turning 30, Mahomes already holds the Chiefs franchise records for both passing yards and passing touchdowns. He set both records during the 2024 season.

With an 89-25 record in the regular season, Mahomes is four wins shy of passing Chiefs legend Len Dawson as the winningest quarterback in Chiefs history.

The winning hasn’t been just in the regular season. As everyone in Kansas City is well aware, Mahomes has started five Super Bowls, which is tied for second-most with John Elway and only trailing Tom Brady (10) for most all-time by a quarterback. He’s won three of them, which trails only Brady (7), Joe Montana (4) and Terry Bradshaw (4).

In those Super Bowls, Mahomes has won Super Bowl MVP in all three Chiefs victories. That has him tied with Montana for second-most and trailing only Brady (5) for the NFL record.

Given that he’s played in five Super Bowls and led the Chiefs to the AFC title game in all every season he’s started, Mahomes has won plenty of playoff games. In fact, his 17 playoff wins is already second-most in NFL history and trailing only Brady (35) for the all-time record.

During the 2018 and 2022 seasons, Mahomes won the regular season MVP award. The first came during a season where he threw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. Only three players in NFL history have thrown for 50 touchdowns in a season and only 15 players have thrown for 5,000 yards in a season -- something Mahomes did both years he won MVP.

In terms of winning and awards, Mahomes is essentially just chasing Brady, but here’s how the two compared through their 20s.

In their 20s... Patrick Mahomes Tom Brady

Regular season record 89-25 70-24

Playoff record 17-4 12-2

Passing yards 32,797 21,564

Passing touchdowns/interceptions 247-75 149-78

Super Bowl appearances 5 3

Super Bowl titles 3 3

Super Bowl MVPs 3 2

MVPs 2 0

Pro Bowls 6 3

All-Pro 2 0

Statistically, Mahomes closes his 20s with 32,797 passing yards (which trails only Matthew Stafford all-time for QBs in their 20s), 247 passing touchdowns (most all-time for a QB in their 20s), and 75 interceptions.

In his ninth season in the NFL, Mahomes is one touchdown pass away from surpassing Peyton Manning for the most combined regular season and postseason passing touchdowns through a player’s first nine seasons. That’s despite only playing in one game during his rookie season.

As he enters his 30s, Mahomes is 47th all-time in passing yards and 29th in passing touchdowns in NFL history. As he enters a new era of his life, Chiefs fans will hope Mahomes replicate some of the unprecedented success his 20s did in his 30s.
