Atlético Madrid’s Julián Alvarez and Dávid Hancko are expected to miss the Champions League clash against Liverpool on Wednesday, according to claims from Spain.
The 25-year-old striker and Hancko were both involved in the La Liga club’s 2-0 win over Villarreal last weekend, and Alvarez was replaced after the break, and the defender, Robin Le Normand and Nico González were all forced off the pitch due to injuries.
After the match, Diego Simeone said Los Rojiblancos’ doctor will assess their fitness and availability to face Liverpool.
Marca report it’s ‘practically impossible’ for the Argentina international and the 27-year-old centre-back to be involved at Anfield.
‘Barring a miracle’, the duo will join Álex Baena, José María Giménez and Thiago Almada to miss the match against the Reds.
It’s claimed the Spanish club will travel to England at 11:15am [local time] without the aforementioned five players.
Marca report Alvarez is struggling with a knee discomfort, and the Madrid club don’t want to risk letting him play against Arne Slot’s side, especially after missing Monday’s training.
Hancko also didn’t train with his teammates and was worked alone in the gym yesterday and is expected to be not in the squad to face Liverpool.
Mundo Deportivo also report Alvarez and Hancko are out, while Simeone has good news with Le Normand and González. The newspaper state the latter two trained normally on Monday and will be in contention for the Liverpool match.
