Manchester United had an active summer transfer window, but one player they let slip through their hands has impressed Alan Shearer in the Premier League this weekend.
Manchester United spent £232.4million throughout the transfer window to bolster Ruben Amorim’s options, particularly in an attacking sense.
Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbuemo, and Matheus Cunha joined the club, but Amorim also significantly changed things in net by allowing Andre Onana to leave Old Trafford.

There was lots of speculation about who Manchester United would sign to replace him, with Gianluigi Donnarumma being one rumored name until he joined their noisy neighbours.
Ultimately, Senne Lammens joined the Red Devils, but another name they had the chance to sign shone brightly this past weekend.

Alan Shearer was wowed by ‘brilliant’ Emi Martinez
Emi Martinez was someone with whom Manchester United were heavily linked throughout the summer transfer window, with the Argentina international being a proven commodity in the Premier League.
Martinez spent the entire deadline day waiting for a transfer to Manchester United, but it never materialised, and instead, he’s set for another season at Aston Villa.
However, he’s not letting that disappointment impact his performances, and Alan Shearer put him in his Premier League team of the week for his efforts against Everton.
“Villa are still without a goal this season, but Martinez made sure that they got a clean sheet and a point at Everton with some impressive saves, including a brilliant stop from Michael Keane’s header.”

This has led to frustration from supporters, as Martinez has proven his ability to be a top goalkeeper not just in the Premier League but also at the international level with Argentina.
Rio Ferdinand admitted he’d have signed Martinez over Lammens. While time will tell whether that decision was right or wrong, the Villa goalkeeper is already proving what he could’ve offered.
