“Blame Manchester United” – Player becomes ‘sacrificial lamb’ for Red Devils failure this season

André Onana lost his place in Manchester United’s starting lineup to Altay Bayındır this season and the goalkeeper failed to impress against Grimbsy Town in the EFL Cup.

The lower division English club eliminated the Red Devils from the cup competition and the latter signed Senne Lammens on a permanent deal from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.

Lammens’ arrival saw Onana drop further down the pecking order at Manchester United and last week, the 29-year-old joined Trabzonspor on loan.

The Cameroon international arrived at Old Trafford from Inter Milan in 2023 and has been subjected to constant criticism for his mixed performances. To put it in context, he kept 24 clean sheets and conceded 150 goals from 102 appearances.

Cameroonian journalist Rémy N’Gono was critical of the stopper’s decision to join the Premier League club and now reiterates it, with Actu Cameroun relayed his comments.

“I was the only one on this set who said that Onana shouldn’t go to Manchester United and that he would fail resoundingly,” he said.

Manchester United finished eighth in the league in Onana’s debut season but qualified for the Europa League by winning the FA Cup. Last season, they finished 15th and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

The journalist insists Manchester United are largely to be blamed for the stopper’s dip in form.

“It’s that André Onana who lost confidence. You shouldn’t have gone to that Manchester United team,” N’Gono explaind.

“What I blame Manchester United for is that Onana is almost becoming the sacrificial lamb. Because no one is going to tell me that Amorim arrived and in 30 matches, he only took 31 points out of 90, and that it was Onana who caused all that!”
