Troy Deeney could not stop praising Martin Zubimendi after Arsenal’s win over Nottingham Forest.
Zubimendi masterclass against Forest
Arsenal fans have been awaiting to see Martin Zubimendi’s magic since his move from Real Sociedad. The Spaniard dictated the tempo and added in two goals to help Arsenal win 3-0 on Saturday.
Zubimendi scored his first goal with a thunderbolt of a volley from a Noni Madueke corner kick. He put in his second goal with a powerful header that was perfectly placed from a cross by Leandro Trossard.
Troy Deeney, a BBC pundit, described Zubimendi’s technique as “frightening.” He went on to name him in his PL Team of the Week as well. For a player still settling into English football, this was a statement performance. He showed why the North London side were willing to spend £60m to get him in the summer window.
A key piece in Arteta’s puzzle
One thing that impressed the most was not just the goals, but how Zubimendi ran the game. The player has quickly become a mainstay in Mikel Arteta’s setup. He’s one of only two Arsenal outfielders, alongside Gabriel, to have played every minute of the league so far.
With nine points from a possible 12, Arsenal’s midfield balance looks stronger than it has in years. He was signed by the Gunners after he rejected Liverpool last year. His arrival feels like perfect timing.
Meanwhile, Christian Norgaard is still waiting to make his start. For now, Zubimendi has taken the chance to cement his place. He could well be the difference-maker in Arsenal’s push for silverware.
Author’s Opinion:
Zubimendi looks like a bargain even at £60m. If he keeps up this form, Arsenal may have found the missing piece they’ve been chasing in midfield for years. This is just the beginning.
