Liverpool will be forced to deal with some fitness and injury concerns going into the Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid. The Reds will host the La Liga outfit at Anfield on Wednesday evening in their first league phase match of the competition this season.
Arne Slot and Co. go into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League at the weekend. A Mohamed Salah penalty in stoppage time was enough to secure the three points at Turf Moor.
Since the full-time whistle went on Sunday afternoon, Liverpool's attention has been fixed on facing Atletico in their midweek clash. However, there are still several question marks over the fitness of some players going into the match against Diego Simeone's side.
Here, the ECHO takes a look at Liverpool's current injury and fitness concerns going into the clash against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Curtis Jones
Curtis Jones will miss Liverpool's clash against Atletico Madrid with an injury.
The midfielder was not available for the win over Burnley at the weekend, but Slot confirmed that Jones will return to training on Wednesday with a view to being fit to face Everton on Saturday.
"Curtis will train with the team tomorrow and hopefully able to be in the squad on Saturday but not for tomorrow," said Slot.
Potential return date: Everton (H) - September 20
Alexander Isak
Alexander Isak is yet to make his Liverpool debut as he continues to build up his fitness following a £125million move from Newcastle.
Slot confirmed on Tuesday that Isak will be in the squad to face Atletico and could feature in the Champions League opener.
"There is definitely a chance [Isak could play vs Atletico] because he is in the squad," Slot said.
"Then there's a chance to play. It's 100% sure that he will not play 90 minutes.
"It's already a Champions League game to look forward to and it's a chance he could play tomorrow.
"The only thing that is sure is he will not play 90. All the rest we will see."
Potential return date: Atletico Madrid (H) - September 16
Alexis Mac Allister
Alexis Mac Allister handed Liverpool an injury scare at the weekend when he was substituted at half-time during the win over Burnley.
The Argentina international was on the receiving end of a challenge from Burnley star Lesley Ugochukwu and required treatment on his ankle before being able to continue.
Mac Allister was substituted at the interval but took part in training on Tuesday and is in line to feature against Atletico.
"A hard-fought away win, good work by the team," Mac Allister wrote in an Instagram post after the win over Burnley.
"Time to recover my ankle and think about a new Champions League campaign. Never in doubt."
Potential return date: Atletico Madrid (H) - September 16
