Mitoma reveals what was lacking as Albion now look to crack the Spurs defence

And he says he cannot be pleased to be off the mark for the season.

The Japan winger soared to head an equaliser at Bournemouth for his first goal of the season.

But it could not head off a 2-1 defeat which left them with four points from as many games.

Mitoma said: “As always, the ball from (Yankuba) Minteh was fantastic. Without his delivery, that goal wouldn’t have happened, so I can only thank him.

“Since we lost, it’s not a game I can be satisfied with.

“As a team, we lacked cohesion and proper spacing in attack, and we lost the ball far too many times. Overall, it just wasn’t good enough.”

Mitoma reached double figures last season and would love to repeat that this term.

But he said: “A goal that doesn’t contribute to winning isn’t a good goal. It was a tough match.”

Mitoma now has 25 goals for Albion in all competitions but had only twice previously scored in defeats.

Those goals were at Brentford last season and at home to Arsenal in the 2022-23 season.

Albion now prepare to take on a Tottenham side whose 1-0 win over Villarreal on Tuesday means they have still only conceded once so far this season.
