September 18 -Premier League club Newcastle United has cancelled more than 100 season tickets that had been circulating outside of the club’s control. The Magpies have publicly apologised to supporters for what they say is an “oversight” after it emerged that these seats were sold to a tour organiser over a decade ago.

This revelation comes amid supporter outrage over touting and access issues at St James’ Park.

The crux of the matter lies in a decade-old arrangement with tour organisers, originally intended to benefit school groups. That deal supposedly ended when the new owners took charge; however, dozens of seats for the UEFA Champions League clash with Barcelona ended up in the hands of a high school in Dundee.

With thousands of Geordies stuck in a digital queue for the most sought-after tickets in decades, the fans were rightly furious.

The club insists they never profited beyond face value and have moved swiftly to cancel 103 season tickets linked to the scheme. The Magpies Supporters’ Trust has welcomed the swift action taken by the club yet rightly asked the question: why did it take so long for the oversight to surface?

To many, this isn’t simply about 103 tickets. It’s about transparency, about protecting supporters from a black market where touts bend supporters over a barrel. Newcastle say the seats are back in circulation via the official ballot, but for the die-hards that will miss out on this epic tie, it stings.
