Opinion: Jamie O'Hara leaves himself open to Everton backlash after fresh Tottenham claim shared

Jamie O’Hara has once again left himself open to be mocked by Everton fans following a recent claim made on TalkSPORT.

Everton have made a much-improved start to the 2025/26 campaign, with the Toffees sitting in seventh spot at four games.

There is still room for improvement from David Moyes’ side, but the early signs are positive going into the Merseyside Derby at the weekend.

Jack Grealish is leading the way with four assists in the Premier League, which has earned him the Player of the Month award for August.

However, the Blues have been equally as impressive defensively having kept two clean sheets and conceded three goals in four games.

Jordan Pickford has already hit back at O’Hara following his demand for the goalkeeper’s ‘penalty cheatsheet’ to be banned.

Now, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has said something else that will make Everton fans laugh.

Jamie O’Hara’s Tottenham claim will make Everton fans laugh

Everton fans have hailed Michael Keane this season on the back of his new contract over the summer.

Playing alongside James Tarkowski, Everton have picked up where they left off with some solid defensive showings.

Despite this, O’Hara has claimed on TalkSPORT that Tottenham boast the best centre-back partnership in the world with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

“Van de Ven and Romero, I’d go as far to say as they’re the best centre-back pairing in the world right now,” he said on TalkSPORT.

“They get into any team in the world right now. There’s only one player who I think is better than them and that’s Virgil van Dijk. Van de Ven is top drawer, he walks into Real Madrid’s team. Romero walks into Real Madrid’s team.”

Only four clubs conceded more goals than Spurs (65) in the Premier League last season, with Everton conceding 21 fewer than the Lilywhites.

For years, Everton have boasted one of the strongest defences in the Premier League, yet O’Hara is claiming Spurs to have the strongest partnership in world football after an impressive start to the season.

Currently, James Tarkowski is outperforming every centre-back in the Premier League through winning the most aerial duels.

Consistency is key in the top flight, and Everton have certainly shown that for a number of seasons.

Tottenham wanted to sign Jarrad Branthwaite over the summer

Despite having the supposed best pairing in world football, it is believed that Tottenham were keen to sign Jarrad Branthwaite.

An exit was ruled out by the Everton defender, who put pen to paper on a new deal to remain on Merseyside.

It does beg the question why Spurs would be looking to splash such significant money on Branthwaite if they already have the best centre-back pairing in the world.

Branthwaite’s value continues to rise following a really impressive season last time out.

Now, Everton fans will be keen to see him make a return to the pitch following his latest injury setback.

However, one thing that is clear is the solid displays Keane has shown in Branthwaite’s absence.
