Fabrizio Romano reveals what he has heard about Andoni Iraola replacing Ruben Amorim at Manchester United

Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim is under fresh pressure after a difficult start to the new Premier League season.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is one of the names being linked with a possible switch to Manchester United if they decide to make a managerial change in the opening months of the new season.

Ruben Amorim faces fresh scrutiny in his role as United head coach after they were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Man City last weekend. The defeat means United have taken just four points from their opening four matches of the campaign, their worst start to a season in 33 years.

United also crashed out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Grimsby Town last month, with Amorim's stubborn tactical approach having drawn plenty of criticism in the process. The Portuguese coach is adamant he will not change his philosophy, though it seems something will have to change if they are to turn their fortunes around.

It is claimed Iraola is one of four potential replacements already identified to potentially takeover at Old Trafford, alongside Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, Fulham head coach Marco Silva and former England boss Gareth Southgate. Bournemouth have enjoyed their best ever start to a top-flight campaign with three wins from their first four matches of the season and were unfortunate not to take anything from their opening day defeat to Liverpool.

It has all led to the interest in Iraola, though notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano remains coy on the possibility of the 43-year-old replacing Amorim. Writing in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano reiterated all of the United manager talk is 'speculation' and that there are no plans for them to sack their current head coach.

"Nothing about names now," Romano wrote in response to Iraola’s links with the role. "At the moment Man United are not changing the coach so all the rest is speculation. If something changes with Amorim, we’ll see who they pick."

It is understood Amorim will be granted more time to turn things around at Old Trafford after he was backed with £225 million in the summer transfer window. The former Sporting boss was only hired in November 2024 and Ineos would be reluctant to sack the man they pushed so hard to get less than a year into his role.
