Arsenal started their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win over Athletic Club Bilbao at San Mamés on Tuesday.
The Gunners strengthened their attack by adding Viktor Gyökeres, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke in the summer window, and Mikel Arteta started the trio against the La Liga club yesterday.
Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli replaced Gyökeres and Eze respectively in the second half, and the duo had direct roles in both goals scored by Arsenal against Athletic.
Trossard assisted Martinelli’s opener in the 72nd minute, and the Belgian got his name on the scoresheet in the 87th minute, assisted by Martinelli. Marca and Mundo Deportivo on Wednesday have provided ratings, and we focus on Arsenal players.
Both newspapers have given single star to Gyökeres, Eze and Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, and also gave a single star to other Arsenal players.
Marca weren’t pleased with Madueke, Declan Rice and Mikel Merino, and gave them a single star, and two stars to the rest of Arsenal’s starting XI.
Mundo gave the lowest rating [single star] to Gunners trio of Gabriel Magalhães, Riccardo Calafiori and Cristhian Mosquera, and Martín Zubimendi is the only player to receive three stars. The rest of Arsenal players got two stars.
AS gave three stars to Zubimendi and Rice and two stars to Arsenal’s remaining starters.
