‘Well and training’ – Napoli player now in fray to feature against Manchester City after injury scare

This week, there have been major doubts about whether Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret will be fit enough to feature against Manchester City in their Champions League game at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday.

The 28-year-old pulled out of Napoli’s weekend clash against Fiorentina, leaving summer signing Vanja Milinković-Savić to make his debut. On Monday, Meret trained separately from the first-team squad, adding more doubts about his fitness.

Hope is now growing in Naples and the player can now feature against Manchester City.

Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Italian is now ‘well and training’ with the Napoli first-team and his recovery is on the right track.

The final decision about whether he plays against Manchester City will be made by manager Antonio Conte and not by the team doctors.

The newspaper believe that whoever out of Meret and Milinković-Savić is in a better shape will play, with Napoli not looking to take too many risks about the Italy international’s fitness.

As of now, Meret has an advantage over the Serbian but Conte’s decision is likely to be made on the nature of the game on Thursday and how he plans to approach the tie tactically.

Milinković-Savić has never played in a Champions League game in his career, with Meret having played 24 times in the competitions so far.
