Anis Mehmeti knows that Bristol City need to maintain their “terrific” early-season form after they stretched their unbeaten start to the new campaign to five league games with a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Mehmeti has started all but one of the Robins' opening seven matches in all competitions and scored their third goal at the weekend, as he calmly controlled a Scott Twine cross, before slotting under Ethan Hovarth in the Owls’ net. City had taken the lead after just six minutes when Harry Amass turned into his own net before Emil Riis doubled the advantage 12 minutes later.
Prior to the September international break, the Reds had produced a similarly exciting attacking display as they ran out 4-2 winners over Hull City at Ashton Gate. While draws against both Derby County and Charlton Athletic were slightly frustrating, back-to-back wins, as well as the opening day thrashing of Sheffield United, have ensured there is a positive buzz around BS3 currently.

After five matches, City find themselves third in the Championship, two points off of table toppers Middlesbrough and one adrift of second placed Stoke City. Although Mehmeti is more than content with the start and he is teammates have made, he knows more will be required over the coming weeks and months.
“We’re unbeaten five games in, and we’ve been terrific,” the Albanian told BBC Radio Bristol after the full-time whistle at Hillsborough. "But I think we need to keep that going.
“We know the Championship is a long season, and it’s all about putting runs together. We’re doing that now, so [we’re] buzzing.
"I thought it was a good win," Mehmeti added on the result against the Owls. "It’s always a tough place to come and I think we’re delighted with the three points. We’re delighted with our three points and got our rewards in the end."
From the first minute in the Steel City, the Robins’ front three of Mehmeti, Twine, and Riis caused Henrik Pedersen’s side a whole host of problems.
Although City’s opener went down as an own goal, it was Mehmeti who picked out Rob Dickie with a smart cut-back before the defender sliced his effort into the back of the net via an Amass deflection. The 24-year-old was then the man to slide Riis behind the Owls’ backline when the Dane doubled the lead with his third goal of the season, later in the first half.

Finally, the Albanian got on the scoresheet himself when, after 32 minutes, he rolled under Horvath after plucking a cross from Twine out of the air inside the Wednesday box and beating his marker with a smart turn.
On his third goal of the season, Mehmeti said, "I thought, to be fair, when the ball came, I thought if I shot early, he’s probably going to block it, so I just took the touch around him.
"Then I saw the keeper, and normally in those situations, you look to bend the shots around him, but the most obvious shot sometimes is through the legs, and I did that.
"Certainly, for me, I could have had three or four," he added. "I know it seems mad to say, but I could have had three or four today. But look, it’s all about relationships and creating those bonds together. Me, Twiney and Emil have been doing that so long, may it continue."
With the three points won by the break, Struber's side appeared to take their foot off of the gas in the second half as they professionally saw the game out. The Robins boss used the closing exchanges as an opportunity to get some minutes into the legs of the likes of Max Bird, Yu Hirakawa, Sinclair Armstrong and summer signing Neto Borges.

The Brazilian made his City debut from the bench in the closing exchanges on Saturday afternoon, replacing Ross McCrorie for the final four minutes at Hillsborough after joining the Reds' ranks on loan from Middlesbrough on the penultimate day of the transfer window.
Although Borges' involvement was limited in his brief cameo, he offered a hint of what he could bring to Struber's team with one or two smart passes in the final knockings of the match. While the 29-year-old faces a fight to wrestle a starting spot off of McCrorie, Mehmeti appears to be relishing the chance to link up with his newest teammate.
“We know Neto and we know his qualities," the winger explained when asked about the Brazilian defender. "We played against him last year, and to be fair, I’m delighted with that addition.
"I know, on that left side, what he can do with me, creating that partnership. We’re really looking forward to him, and obviously, it’s his birthday, isn’t it?
"So three points and happy birthday to him.”
