Former Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez was spotted limping out of the stadium following his latest goal-scoring exploits for Al-Hilal. This coincidentally happened on the same night his ex-teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold was also dealt a crushing injury blow.
Liverpool parted ways with both players over the summer transfer window with different emotions all around. Boyhood Red Alexander-Arnold would have ended his two decade-long association with the club by making a free transfer to Real Madrid, had they not been willing to pay to get him one month early in advance of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Nunez's exit followed nearer the end of the window. Whilst he endured a challenging three years on Merseyside, the striker departed with well wishes from supporters on his new adventure in Saudi Arabia.
The Uruguayan has made a fast start to life in the Gulf state. He scored three times in as many pre-season fixtures, scored his first Saudi Pro League goal last weekend, then followed it up with another strike to help Al-Hilal win their AFC Champions League opener against Qatari opposition.
However, Nunez was later seen appearing to limp through the mixed zone at the Kingdom Arena, Riyadh, as he signalled to reporters he would not be stopping for an interview. The Saudi Pro League side will hope it is nothing serious with their £43.3m signing in impressive form.
Real will be hoping the same of Alexander-Arnold, though his start to life in Spain hasn't been quite so fruitful as some might have envisioned.
The former Reds vice-captain was a starter at the Club World Cup in the summer before Dani Carvajal returned from a long-term ACL injury. But, as the new La Liga campaign got underway last month, Alexander-Arnold found himself relegated to the bench in two out of four domestic fixtures this campaign.
The full-back got another chance to start in the Champions League on Tuesday night, but his European debut for his new club was abruptly ended after five minutes because of a hamstring injury.
He is now reportedly set to undergo scans to discover the extent of the problem. It is six weeks until Real are due at Anfield to face Liverpool in the league phase, which Alexander-Arnold could now miss as a result.
