Arsenal have confirmed that Maldini Kacurri will spend the rest of the season on loan with National League side Morecambe.
The 19-year-old defender made his senior debut in last season’s Carabao Cup win over Bolton Wanderers before spending the start of the year with Bromley in League Two.
He recently earned his first international cap, playing for Albania in their 1-0 win over Gibraltar.
With his path to first team minutes blocked by the strength in depth at Mikel Arteta’s disposal, it makes sense for the centre-back to gain more senior experience elsewhere.
Morecambe had a suspension from the National League and a transfer embargo lifted in August after a change of ownership. They are now managed by Ashvir Singh Johal, who recently worked with Cesc Fabregas at Italian side Como. At 30, he is the youngest manager in English football’s top five divisions.
On signing Maldini, Ashvir said: “It’s great that Maldini has decided to join us on loan, we thank Arsenal for their cooperation and deciding that Morecambe was the right place for Maldini. We feel he will have an immediate impact on the game.”
“Maldini’s understanding of the game as a defender, and his eagerness is a standout quality and he’s someone that can also help build an attack, whilst also being strong in defence.”
Anyway, best of luck to Maldini, who joins ex-Gunner Miguel Azeez on the Shrimps’ books.
