Trent Alexander-Arnold has spoken out after Real Madrid released a statement confirming that he'd suffered a thigh injury. Alexander-Arnold, 26, picked up the injury to the back of his left thigh just three minutes into his Champions League debut for Madrid against Marseille on Tuesday.

The England international was forced to leave the Bernabeu pitch and was replaced by Dani Carvajal, as Madrid went on to win the game 2-1. On Wednesday morning, the Spanish club issued a statement.

Madrid didn't, however, reveal how long Alexander-Arnold will be out of action, with a match against former club Liverpool looming. Los Blancos' statement read: "Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. Further updates will follow."

Alexander-Arnold then posted a message on his Instagram story soon after, writing: "Will be back as soon as possible. Stronger than before. See you soon Madridiasts."

Madrid are due to face Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday, November 4th. If he recovers, the right-back could play against his boyhood club for the first time since his acrimonious departure this summer.

After Tuesday's late victory over Marseille, courtesy of a controversial Kylian Mbappe penalty, Xabi Alonso suggested that Alexander-Arnold's injury wasn't as bad as first feared. "We're going to wait a bit with Trent because it might not be as bad as it seems," Alonso said in his press conference.

"[Eduardo] Camavinga and [Jude] Bellingham are now much better and will be available to play on Saturday... Asencio came on nicely and we have to be creative to find solutions.

"We have options and flexible players who can play different roles in both defence and midfield. We now have to think about what's best."

Mbappe scored two penalties on the night, as the 15-time European champions overcame a spirited Marseille performance. Timothy Weah equalised in the first half and both goalkeepers were kept busy. "A lot happened," Alonso added.

"It was a typical Champions League home game where anything can happen. Despite conceding a goal, we kept going and went into half-time 1-1. In the second half, the pace was less frenetic, but we felt we were creating chances to score.

"Then came the red card, and despite being a man down, the team continued to dominate and press. We found ourselves 2-1 up and didn't struggle at all. It's an important victory to get this first phase of the Champions League off to a good start."
