Leeds United failed with an attempt to sign Harry Wilson from Fulham on deadline day.

However, in a deadline week that will be remembered in West Yorkshire for all the wrong reasons, Wilson’s move to Leeds fell through.

The 28-year-old Welsh playmaker would have added some much-needed firepower in the final third, with his compatriot Dan James, but instead the 49ers and Adam Underwood were left embarrassed.

However, recent reports suggest Leeds are not done chasing the winger, but they now are set to face competition from another Premier League club for his signature.

Leeds and Everton to battle in an attempt to sign Harry Wilson

Not signing Wilson almost came back to bite Leeds as Karl Darlow was forced into making a terrific save to prevent Wilson’s free-kick from nestling in the top corner on Saturday.

MORE LEEDS STORIES

Despite the new season still being in its infancy, it is still painfully obvious that Leeds need more attacking reinforcements, losing 1-0 at Craven Cottage.

According to reports from SportsBoom on 15 September, the Whites are set to go back in for Wilson in January when the window opens again.

They are not the only ones, with Everton also interested in the 28-year-old.

Wilson’s contract is set to expire next summer, but a “sizeable fee” could tempt Fulham to part ways with their winger mid-way through the season.

Harry Wilson signing could be too little, too late from the 49ers

Leeds not already having Wilson in their squad shows the 49ers are extremely naive when it comes to overrating the abilities of the forwards who are already at the club.

A deal for a player with one year left on his deal should not have been a complicated one, and the fact that the 49ers left it until deadline day to go in for the Wales international showcases their extremely poor planning.

Leeds winger options last season:

Manor Solomon – returned to Tottenham after a loan spell, now at Villarreal

Willy Gnonto – still at Leeds

Dan James – still at Leeds

Largie Ramazani – loaned out to Valencia

Leeds have somehow managed to go into the Premier League with a winger lineup that includes Jack Harrison and is arguably weaker than the one they had at their disposal last season.

The signing of Wilson in the summer would have changed this, but if the 49ers finally manage to secure their man in January, they may already have left themselves with too steep a hill to climb for Leeds to avoid relegation.
