Pep Guardiola says Man City have a 'special' player who could become captain in the future

Pep Guardiola believes that Manchester City have a leader in their ranks who could captain the club one day.

Bernardo Silva is Manchester City’s current skipper.

However, Bernardo’s contract at Manchester City expires in 2026 and as a result, it is possible that he hands the armband to one of his teammates next year.

While a decision on City’s next captain is yet to be made, Pep Guardiola has a name in mind who could be fit for the job one day.

Dias believes Rodri steps up for Manchester City when times are tough, which shows how brilliant he is at leading from the front.

Pep Guardiola claimed Haaland is becoming a leader and tipped him to potentially captain Manchester City in the future.

Guardiola said via BeanymanSports: “It’s a question of maturity, time, he’s a little bit older even though he’s young.”

“He’s one of the captains, he signed a contract for many years here and that’s why in a natural way…normally, your figure in the locker room is winning on the pitch and of course, it happened in a natural way.”

Journalist Jack Gaughan asked: “Was the contract one of the reasons why you picked him for that group? Because he’s got that longevity and someone you see take on the captaincy in the future years?”

“Yeah.”

Erling Haaland’s teammate is more likely to captain Man City next

Guardiola claimed Haaland is at his best currently and named his star striker as a “special player” as he starred in the Manchester Derby by scoring a brilliant brace.

However, Dias could become Manchester City’s next captain, which was one of the reasons why the Sky Blues made it a priority to extend his contract until 2029 last month.

The 28-year-old has been at City since 2020 and now, he is one of the senior players in their dressing room.
