Simon Jordan does not believe Erling Haaland will ever break the Premier League goal record set by Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer.
Shearer, of course, is the finest goalscorer in Premier League history. Between 1992 and 2006, the Newcastle United icon scored a stunning 260 goals.
That only translated to one title but there’s little doubt Newcastle’s all-time top scorer is one of the best forwards ever produced in English football.
Still, such is the quality of the Premier League, players have come close to catching him. Harry Kane got to 213 before leaving Tottenham for Bayern Munich in 2023, while Wayne Rooney (208) is the only other player to breach the 200 mark.
Mohamed Salah (188) could well do that soon and while Haaland (90) is much further behind, the sheer rate of his scoring is astounding. Indeed, the Manchester City star has reached that total in just 101 games.
Still, Jordan does not think he will be reaching Shearer’s total.

Erling Haaland tipped to leave Man City before breaking Alan Shearer record
The talkSPORT host believes Haaland – like Kane before him – will leave the Premier League before he can break Shearer’s record.
Though the Norway international only signed a fresh nine-year contract at the Etihad Stadium in January, Jordan believes the likes of former Newcastle man Alexander Isak prove that long-term deals mean very little in modern football.
“Do I believe that if he stayed here, he’d achieve it? Yes, I don’t doubt it,” he said.
“His goalscoring record is remarkable.
“Unless he’s going to stay here for another five seasons, which is what it would take for him to get that level of goals I suspect, he won’t”.
When asked if Haaland would stay in England, Jordan said: “No, I don’t think so. Other opportunities will come, not because Man City aren’t a good football club, but because opportunities will come for him in different spaces and he’ll want to broaden his horizons.”
Speaking of Haaland’s contract, the former Crystal Palace owner added: “You do it [sign it] because you obviously know you’re going to be committed to a contract, but you also know that the club can retain some value over your registration and command decent fees for him.
“We’ve just seen what contracts are worth, haven’t we? We’ve just seen Isak do what he wants to do when it comes down to it.”
Who Alan Shearer thinks will break his Premier League record
Though the former England captain is of course impressed with Haaland’s haul, he has previously named two players who will likely break his record before the City star.
Shearer thinks Kane or Salah will break the Premier League goal record before Haaland but, truthfully, neither seem all that likely right now.
“I don’t think anyone saw that coming, an incredibly long contract. Congrats to him but it is a bit of a surprise,” he told BBC Sport in January.
“If he stays for that long no doubt he will break that record [all-time top scorer in the Premier League]. It might be someone else’s by then – like Harry Kane or Mo Salah.
“But there is no doubt if, and a big if, because such a long contract and takes him to 34, he should have a Premier League record goal-scoring wise.
“It’s good news for the Premier League because we want all the best players in our league, not so good for the defenders who are going to be chasing his tail for many years to come.”
Player Goals
Alan Shearer 260
Harry Kane 213
Wayne Rooney 208
Mohamed Salah 188
Kane would need to leave Bayern Munich and return to English football, which is far from a guarantee.
As prolific as Salah is, he’s still 72 goals behind with two years left on his contract at Anfield. That’s not to say he can’t do it, just that time is stacked against the 33-year-old.
