'I always try': Gianluigi Donnarumma is 'sure' one thing will happen during his time at Man City

Gianluigi Donnarumma has shared the one thing he is sure will happen during his time at Manchester City having completed a move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window.

Donnarumma joined Man City on deadline day as part of a £30m deal with Paris Saint-Germain, as Pep Guardiola was happy for the Manchester club to end their eight-year relationship with Ederson.

It has been well documented that the Italian is a very different goalkeeper from the Man City legend, as the Brazilian star is one of the greatest shot-stoppers with the ball at his feet, something the 26-year-old is keen to improve at the Etihad Stadium.

Donnarumma has admitted that his ambition to improve his ball-playing skills was one of the reasons he decided to move to Man City, while the goalkeeper also stated that he is sure he will experience success in Manchester.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is keen to improve his ball-playing skills

Donnarumma impressed on his debut against Man United on Sunday, and the Man City star is excited to play Napoli on Thursday, although he is thankful the match is not in Naples.

The 26-year-old’s save from Bryan Mbeumo showed what the goalkeeper is all about and aware of the talk that has occurred around his ability with his feet, the former PSG addressed this on Wednesday in his pre-Napoli press conference.

“I always try and improve [with my feet], I’m now with this coach who’s one of the best in these situations, so he can definitely help me a lot, we can do lots of things together. I’m sure we’ll have great success,” Donnarumma told the media.

“Obviously, you have to sniff out danger. When you’re in a tricky moment, you have to be able to read certain situations and moments in a match.

“There are moments where you can play, you can force play, and there are moments where it’s better to kick it long to avoid dangerous situations, especially in a difficult situation like a Champions League game or in a final.

“So you have to be good at knowing how to read the situation. When you can play, you play; when you can’t, you don’t.”

Many are doubting Man City’s decision to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma

Nedum Onuoha does not understand Man City’s decision to sign Donnarumma, given the vast difference between the Italian and Ederson, while the Manchester club also have a better fit in James Trafford on their books.

The former City star is not the only one, with Neil Warnock stating that the goalkeeper situation at Man City has surprised him, while Ally McCoist also has concerns regarding Donnarumma and how he fits into Guardiola’s playing style.

These are legitimate concerns; however, the 26-year-old should not be doubted, and if he can improve with the ball at his feet over the coming months at Man City, Guardiola’s decision to bring the former PSG star to the Etihad Stadium will have been justified.
