£35m Man Utd star gives injury update ahead of Chelsea

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has provided an injury update ahead of the Premier League game against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Argentina international has been on the sidelines since February due to a long-term knee injury, but he is poised to return in the forthcoming weeks.

Martinez is aiming for a comeback to action by late October. He has now provided an update of him training on the grass alongside physiotherapist Ibrahim Kerem (via Instagram stories).

United have had a tough start to the new campaign under manager Ruben Amorim. They were the better side against Arsenal in the Premier League opener last month despite a 1-0 loss.

The Red Devils have since struggled to produce the same level of performance. They shared the spoils against Fulham before bowing out of the Carabao Cup in the second round to Grimsby Town.

The club were fortunate to beat Burnley after a late penalty in stoppage time. Last weekend, Manchester City capitalised on their defensive lapses to secure a comfortable 3-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.

Luke Shaw was partly at fault for all three goals conceded, and United desperately need an upgrade on the Englishman in the left central defensive position to turn around their fortunes this term.

Amorim prefers to deploy a left-footed player in the role. He has persisted with Shaw in recent league games, considering Ayden Heaven is still relatively inexperienced at the senior level.

The Portuguese tactician has the option to play Leny Yoro or Noussair Mazraoui, and it remains to be seen whether that happens during Saturday’s encounter against the Blues at home.

Martinez won’t be available for at least another month, following a serious knee injury. The £35 million-rated will be eased back into action. He may not become a regular starter until mid-to-late November.
