Jurrien Timber thankful for the ‘privilege’ to uphold the defensive discipline of Arsenal

**Arsenal**are off to winning ways in the Champions League, beating Athletic Club with two late goals. Once more, the team kept a clean sheet: they have now conceded just 18 goals across their last 25 fixtures, and Jurrien Timber feels that it is a massive "privilege" to be part of such a steely unit.

‘The standards are really high’

The Gunners had the third-best goal difference in the league phase of the Champions League last season, giving away only three goals across eight fixtures. Fans might sometimes want more from the attack, but there is no doubt that the defensive unit has been holding itself to the highest of standards.

"It’s not just the defence, it’s David Raya and the whole team. I think an amazing effort while we are defending. The standards are really high, which is amazing to see. It's a privilege to be a part of.”

Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke, and Viktor Gyökeres could not create the same fireworks as they did against Nottingham Forest on the weekend. So, it was down to the subs to make the difference.

“They look happy, and they did amazing. I think we have a deep squad, a great squad, so when players come on, they can make a difference like this, it's going to really help us this season.”

Gabriel Martinelli made a well-timed deep run to connect with a flick from Leandro Trossard, converting from a 1 v 1 with Unai Simon. He then drove down the left flank and found the Belgian, who took his time and doubled the lead in the 87th minute. Timber talked highly of both players.

"The first Champions League win is very important. It's not easy coming here, as you see. It was tough, but we got the three points. Big credit to Martinelli and Trossard, they did amazing."

The Dutchman declared that all focus now is on the visit of **Man City**and the Premier League.

"We’ve seen it last year, every point counts. To start here with three points is amazing. Now rest, recover, because we have a big game on Sunday again. Looking forward to it in our own stadium."
