Former Wildcats are leading the Jaguars with the same grit that defined their college careers.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are finding success with a familiar Kentucky flavor. Liam Coen, once Kentucky’s offensive coordinator, is now the head coach. On defense, Josh Hines-Allen, one of the most decorated players in Wildcats history, continues to be the face of the franchise. Hines-Allen has been a force since his rookie year. He posted 10.5 sacks in 2019, a franchise rookie record, and broke the Jaguars’ single-season mark with 17.5 in 2023. Now in year seven, he’s also fresh off his induction into the UK Athletics Hall of Fame, a reminder of the dominance that began in Lexington.
Coen’s path has been less direct. After two stints at Kentucky, including a 10-win season in 2021, he’s taken over in Jacksonville. Known for his sharp offensive mind, he’s already earning respect. Hines-Allen praised him, saying, “He’s been an awesome leader. He demands a lot, but he wants the best from you.”
Both men know success isn’t guaranteed. Jacksonville has only two winning seasons since 2019. But now, with Coen on the sideline and Hines-Allen anchoring the defense, there’s renewed belief. The Wildcats’ bond could be what carries the Jaguars back to playoff football.
And for Big Blue Nation watching from afar, it’s a story worth following every Sunday.
