Player admits he “didn’t think twice” about Brighton exit – Received a message from De Zerbi

Tariq Lamptey has admitted that he “didn’t think twice” about a move to Fiorentina from Brighton and Hove Albion this summer.

He joined them in a €6m deal from Brighton on deadline day of the summer transfer window, despite only having signed a new deal with the Seagulls earlier in the summer.

He had been due to become a free agent and reportedly had interest in the Premier League but ignored that in favour of signing a new deal and remaining where he was.

It seems that was only a short-term arrangement, though, as by deadline day he was on his way to Italy for his first adventure outside of England with Fiorentina.

He’s excited about playing in a new league and admits he didn’t have to think twice about the move, or other potential offers on the table.

“I’m happy to be playing in Serie A, a top-level league. I hope to put my speed to good use for the team. We have a strong team, and they made me feel at ease right away, as did the fans. I hope to play soon,” he said.

“I played a lot in the Premier League, but this was the right move. I wanted to play for a historic club like Fiorentina, which has a great sporting project.

“Fiorentina needs no introduction. It has had some great players, and everyone has a very high opinion of the club.

“Yes, there were others, but when Fiorentina explained their project to me, I didn’t think twice and wanted to come here right away.”

It seems Lamptey is not the only one excited by the move to Italy either, as former Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi was quick on the phone when he heard of the move

“De Zerbi was a great coach and when he heard I was coming here, he wished me well,” he added.
