High intensity, attacking football | Former Steidten choice back on radar for Potter’s job

With rumours that West Ham are putting feelers out to certain managers, one name that has come to light is Roger Schmidt, who was previously discussed by the club following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui. This was driven by former Technical Director [Tim Steidten,](https://www.claretandhugh.info/steidten-slams-west-ham-ownership-in-blunt-german-tv-interview/) who actively advocated for his fellow German to be appointed as Head Coach.

Schmidt has been out of work since 2024, yet has a formidable track record having managed clubs in Germany, Austria, China, Netherlands and Portugal. Over 804 games he boasts 479 wins and an overall win ratio of 59.20%.

He won the league and cup double with Red Bull Salzburg in 2014 aswell as cups with Beijing Sanobo Guoan in 2018 and PSV in 2022. With Benfica he became the first German to win the Primeira Liga.

A move to the Premier League is said to appeal to him, yet reports suggest he has been linked to the China national job.

His preference is high intensity, attacking football which West Ham fans are clamouring for. The 58 year old would represent a strong option and there is no doubting his quality.

Arguably seen as an outsider, the links have gained traction, especially with Co-Chairman Daniel Kretinsky now taking a more active role in any final decision, should West Ham part ways with Graham Potter.
