Paul Merson Claims Ruben Amorim Would've Been A "Perfect Fit" For PL Rivals Rather Than Man United

Man United manager Ruben Amorim is under considerable pressure, as reports have said the board are giving him three games to save his job.

The current situation with the United boss feels very similar to how it did before United sacked Erik Ten Hag last year, when Amorim was first appointed. He has managed just four points in the opening four Premier League games.

United come off a humiliating 3-0 defeat to rivals Manchester City, and they are also out of the Carabao Cup after getting knocked out by League Two side Grimsby Town.

Despite these awful results, Amorim has insisted that he will stick to his current system and not change his philosophy, comments that came under massive criticism, and potentially put his job in jeopardy.

Merson says Amorim should have moved to Chelsea

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is one who has been critical of Amorim’s recent comments, suggesting that United’s squad is not at all suited to playing the style of football an formation that the Portuguese manager insists on playing.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson claimed that Amorim would have been a better fit at Chelsea rather than Man United. The former Arsenal attacker said: “He would have been a perfect fit for Chelsea.

“They’ve got two world-class wing backs in Reece James and Malo Gusto, they’ve got the best holding midfield player in the league in Moises Caicedo. It would fit the players.”

This isn’t so much a criticism of Amorim himself, but more the Man United board who appointed him in the first place, saying that they should have hired someone who plays a system that suits the current crop of players at Old Trafford.

Only time will tell to see if Amorim stays, but names are already being linked such as Gareth Southgate, Andoni Iraola, and Oliver Glasner. Maybe one of them would play a style that suits the Man United players better.
