Super Bowl champ coach suffers injury during week 2 win

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay tore his plantar fascia, a band of tissue in the sole of the foot, during the Rams’ 33-19 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

The 39-year-old McVay revealed his injury on Monday during his “Coach McVay Show,” produced by the Rams.

“Foot’s good,” he said. “I did tear my plantar fascia, so yeah. Well, that’s a good thing, because I guess it allows you to heal a little bit faster. I was being dramatic, limping around towards the end of the game, but the MRI confirmed I did that. Good news is I’m not playing. I’m just on the sidelines watching, so if I have a little cool limp to add some swag, then you’ll know why.”

McVay didn’t provide further details about how he planned to heal his injury.

McVay is in his ninth season as Rams head coach. He has a 90-57 overall record, including playoffs, and led the Rams to victory in Super Bowl LVI over the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022. He became the youngest head coach in NFL history when the Rams hired him at age 30 in 2017.

He previously served as an offensive assistant, and eventually coordinator, with Washington from 2010 to 2016.

Prior to coaching, McVay played three seasons of college football as a wide receiver at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He recorded 39 receptions for 312 yards, as well as nine rushes for 29 yards, in 26 games for the RedHawks.

The 2-0 Rams next head to Philadelphia to take on the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
