Leeds United have secured their Under 21s captain with a contract extension after an impressive start to the season.
Alfie Cresswell turned 18 this summer and has penned a new three-year deal. The youngster can play centre-back or right-back but this season has so far featured in a defensive midfield role for the Under 21s. Cresswell is following a family tradition at Thorp Arch. His older brother Charlie also came through the youth ranks at Leeds United, playing 14 times for the club including five Premier League appearances, before a move to Toulouse in 2024. Their dad Richard played up front for the Whites between 2005 and 2007.
Cresswell has played every minute of the Under 21s' games so far this season, captaining the side and scoring from a deep-lying midfield position in Premier League 2 outings against Aston Villa and Ipswich Town.
A club statement confirmed his new deal: "Leeds United are pleased to announce Under-21s captain Alfie Cresswell has put pen to paper on a new contract with the club. The three-year deal will see the versatile midfielder continue his development at Thorp Arch until 2028.
"Cresswell notably skippered Scott Gardner’s side to National League Cup success last term, lifting the trophy as the Whites defeated Sutton United in the final. Capable of playing in the heart of the engine room and across the backline, the 18-year-old has started the new Premier League 2 campaign off in fine form, scoring twice in the opening three matches and impressed in last night’s National League Cup victory over Scunthorpe United. Everyone at Leeds United would like to congratulate Alfie on extending his stay with the club and we look forward to seeing his continued development at Thorp Arch."
