Leeds United have now failed to scored a goal in three of their five games in all competitions this season. The lack of a cutting edge up front is clearly affecting the club on the pitch.
On Saturday, Daniel Farke tried something new, starting a front three of Noah Okafor, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Brenden Aaronson. All of them were making their first league starts of the season. And it ended like most people predicted; Aaronson was poor, Okafor showed some flashes, and Calvert-Lewin was guilty of missing a big chance in the game.

After Harry Gray’s hattrick on Tuesday night, a lot of fans are already calling for him to be part of the first team to solve their goalscoring woes. The young striker has netted six goals already.
With the noise around his place in the first team, fans should know that Daniel Farke is already ahead of everyone. He specifically mentioned how Leeds will handle the youngster for this season:
“The plan is to move to focus away from him and not speak about him too much. He’s a 16-year-old youngster,” he said before the first game of the season in August.
“I won’t speak too much about him in the future because it’s difficult when you play for Leeds United with his last name aged 16 when the whole stadium is singing your name and everyone expects him to celebrate once we got promoted like he was the only one promoted. It’s not healthy for the development of the young player.
“My message is leave him alone a little bit and give him time to grow and develop. This is the last time for a while I will speak about Harry in a press conference.”
Leeds prodigy is not the answer for now
Harry Gray is growing and developing at his own pace, and Leeds fans should not be quick to rush him. At just 16, he has quite a few things to work on before he is ready to show his talent in the first team. Even his brother had to wait till he was 17 to make his debut, and become a huge part of the team at 18.
For now, Daniel Farke should be focusing on how to get the best out of the current players up front.
