Leeds United legends Paul Reaney and Allan Clarke have opened up on the injustice they suffered in the 1975 European Cup final.
A new documentary is set for cinemas next month exploring what happened at Parc de Princes in Paris when Leeds met Bayern Munich in the final of the European Cup. Club legends Reaney and Clarke are among the stars of the show as documentary maker and lifelong Leeds fan Harvey Marcus asks questions he has always wanted to ask about a game that fascinated him growing up. PARIS 75 also features interviews and personal footage from supporters who went on a European adventure to support their beloved Leeds United before ultimate heartbreak and injustice at the hands of a referee.
In the film Clarke reveals that he and Billy Bremner were approached in the build-up to the final and advised that they should pay the referee if they wanted to win. Reaney discusses the managerial characters who followed Revie into the Elland Road hot seat and what it was really like in a dressing room full of greats.
Marcus told the YEP: "Paul's story has never really been heard as much. He captained the team in the Cup Winners' Cup final against Milan, he was there throughout, he was a unifying link because he was there when Don Revie came in. He literally saw it all. He was central to it.
"As much as I'm not a fan of The Damned United the film, I'm a fan of The Damned United the book in the forensic level it goes into. And that's kind of what I wanted, which was hard to be honest. I wanted to know what it felt like to be in the dressing room. What was the relationship like with Armfield? I wanted to ask questions that Leeds fans of a certain age want to ask. Did Leeds shoot themselves in the foot, because they were such strong characters, did that stop [Armfield] putting Duncan McKenzie on?"
Tickets are on sale at various independent cinemas and the film is set to be shown from Friday October 10 at the following venues.
