The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed tight end Matt Sokol to their practice squad. Sokol, a former Steelers tight end for much of last season, was also with the New England Patriots from 2022 to 2023. He signs with the Steelers just days before that game in Foxborough.
The Bills released Sokol in August and he did not sign to another practice squad until he signed with the Steelers on Wednesday.
Sokol signed with the Steelers in the middle of training camp and made a few standout plays. The former Michigan State product was released as part of the final cutdowns before returning during the regular season on the practice squad.
Sokol played primarily for the New England Patriots in his career, but has spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, and Detroit Lions over his years in the NFL. He went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft.
The team released tight end JJ Galbreath to make room for Sokol on the roster. Pittsburgh now has five tight ends in the organization at this time.
