New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields left the game against the Buffalo Bills with a concussion, and he did not return. Tyrod Taylor finished the game at quarterback for the Jets in a 30-10 loss.
With New York having an 0-2 record this season, they will head on the road and play against the 2-0 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Will Fields be starting for the Jets on Sunday against Tampa Bay or he has been ruled out?
New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Rules Out Justin Fields for Week 3 Matchup
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn spoke to reporters on Wednesday. He announced that Fields will not be playing on Sunday against the Buccaneers with a concussion. This means that Taylor is going to be starting for New York at quarterback.
Taylor completed 63.6% of his passes for 56 yards and one touchdown against the Bills in week two. He also rushed for 21 yards on seven carries and averaged 3.0 yards per carry. Taylor is used to starting games at the NFL level and has been a reliable backup quarterback.
As for Fields, he has completed 57.6% of his passes for 245 yards and one touchdown so far this season. He has also rushed for 97 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 5.7 yards per carry.
With him having a concussion, it is going to be interesting to see when Fields could potentially return to the field for this football team. The good news for the Jets is that after week three, they will have an extra day to prepare for the Miami Dolphins. They play against each other on Monday, September 29. Maybe Fields can return to the field then for the Jets. If not, then this concussion will be a bigger concern for this team moving forward after being signed to a two-year deal this past offseason.
